Fawkes may have formerly been a Vault security officer named Sheldon Delacroix, who discovered the dark secrets behind the Vault and was subsequently captured and used as a test subject. Fawkes was, like many of the residents of Vault 87, exposed to the Forced Evolutionary Virus in part of the twisted experiment which was the true purposes of the bunker's construction in the 2060s (rather than as a shelter in case of a nuclear war, as the public were informed).
Fawkes is a major character and possible companion to The Lone Wanderer in Fallout 3.
